History

In Mizoram, Mini State Health Education Bureau was created in the State Health Directorate in the year 1977 headed by Health Education Officer, one LDC and a Peon. In addition to the routine duties, School Health Programme was taken up under this Bureau though the School Health Programme was switched over to MCH Programme in the year 1985. The Mini State Health Education Bureau was amalgamated with Mass Education and Media Wing in March 1988, which is presently known as State Mass Education and Media Wing (SMEMW) headed by State Mass Education and Media Officer (SMEMO) & Health EducationOfficer (HEO) within the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) at the State. Before, the inception of NRHMin 2005and till 2009 this SMEM Wing was looking after all the IEC and Health Education programmes.

IEC/BCC

The IEC Section, one of the Section of State Programme Management Unit (SPMU) as per the guidelines of National Health Mission: Institutional Setup at State level is responsible for the dissemination of information and awareness regarding the various programmes and schemes available under the National Health Mission.

This section enables individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities to play active roles in achieving, protecting and sustaining their own health. Activities are developed based upon needs assessments, sound educational principles, and periodic evaluation using a clear set of goals and objectives.

At present, The Mission Director, NHM is the administrative head of the IEC/ BCC

IEC Activities

  • The IEC Section under NHM provides the public with adequate programme literacy, entitlements and processes so that the common man may have access to better Health care facilities. Advertisement through different media channels are given for display at relevant events, publishes, shows etc. Requests may be submitted to the Office of the Mission Director, National Health Mission. Appropriate rates for advertisement are given below; it is advisable to go through the table before submitting requests.
